You're probably wondering why we went electronic with the magazine. Well, for a few reasons.
My physical health is now preventing me from manually distributing the magazines. The boxes weigh well over 100 pounds and my back simply cannot handle moving them around for sorting.
Secondly, because I had taken over the contract associated with publishing since the office decided to give it up, that means I also assumed the printing fees associated with it. Although it only amounts to $200 per year, (which is actually very cheap for publishing costs), with inflation as it currently is, it's not a cost I can personally absorb at this time.
Lastly, I've only received a couple of inquiries about the magazine. This is an indication to me that most aren't interested if it continues or not. But since there are a few out there, I'm willing to post them so people can download them as they wish. As there is no cost associated with posting them to a blog site, I will continue - at least for now - to compile and publish them. I will monitor the number of downloads per month and as long as there is enough interest, I will continue.
There are definitely some benefits for going online:
We no longer have to wait for magazines to be delivered. They're available to you as soon as they're ready and uploaded.
You can read the magazine on your computer. No need to print. However, if there is any part of the magazine you'd like to print, you can print only the pages you are interested in.
We are no longer limited to 20 pages (or multiples of 4 pages). If an article takes one more page than allotted, it no longer has be be edited down to make it fit. Nor do we have to give up 3 pages if we're only short by one.
I'm making all previous issues available for download. So if you accidentally threw out an issue and meant to keep it for a recipe or other item, you can just download it again!
All of that said, the ads previously furnished by the publisher will no longer be included. I understand that this makes the magazine available only to those that use computers, but unless someone is willing to take on the publishing costs and distribution challenges, it is what it is, at least for now.
As always, if there is anything specific you'd like to see added or included, feel free to send an email with your request. The email link is to your right.
Please share the site link with anyone you know that wishes to have access. And don't forget to add the link to your favorites!
